We are happy to announce that the first talk on the topic “An Ontology for Multivocality: Embracing Diverse Perspectives in Machine-Reada” will be held as a part of the Sloane Lab Symposium series, facilitated in collaboration with the Humanities Data Science & Methodology (HDSM) Oberseminar of TU Darmstadt, the UCL Centre for Digital Humanities (UCLDH) and the UCL Institute for Advanced Studies (UCL IAS).

On 16th April (16:30 CEST) Anna Sofia Lippolis (Sloane Lab Community Fellow / UnivThis) will open Symposium Series with her exciting talk. The abstract t of the lecture is as follows:

This presentation delves  into the intersection of semantic technologies and multivocality, emphasizing the evolution of polyvocal knowledge representation from its historical roots to its integration with artificial intelligence and large language models. Highlighting the development of an ontology designed to embrace multiple perspectives—the output of the Sloane Community Fellowship—the talk outlines how this framework enables the representation of historical biases and diverse conceptualizations in a machine-readable format, enhancing the accessibility and interpretation of digital collections. The potential reuse of the Multivocality Ontology in various contexts and its effectiveness in educational settings focusing on history and colonialism are also explored.

This event will be held in online format. To secure your spot follow the instructions on Eventbrite page.
