Next Tuesday, November 21st, there will be a talk by Associate Professor Melanie Conroy from the University of Memphis (the USA) on “Mapping Social Networks in Smaller Datasets”. The discussion will delve into the ways in which mapping networks can aid in comprehending data in the fields of social science and humanities.

Melanie Conroy has used network visualization in projects from mapping literary social circles to mapping literary character networks. During the presentation, she will elaborate on the utility of network visualization across diverse social science and humanities endeavors, with a specific emphasis on smaller curated datasets.

The talk will encompass a review of different visualization types, offering insights into both Conroy’s personal projects and those of other digital initiatives. Through the presentation of diagrams linked to specific research questions, she will illustrate how network visualization serves to communicate qualitative arguments effectively.

This event will adopt a hybrid format, conducted simultaneously on Zoom and in room S102/36 at TU Darmstadt. To secure your spot, please follow the instructions on the Eventbrite page.

The full program of the Oberseminar series is available on our website. We have many lectures planned for the future. Take a moment to check it out!
